Tenuta del Meriggio

The winery was established in 2010 by Bruno Pizza and his wife, Nunzia Guerriero. While the estate is relatively young, it was founded with the specific goal of revitalizing traditional Irpinian viticulture using modern, sustainable methods. The name Meriggio refers to the peak afternoon hours when the sun is strongest, reflecting the high-altitude, sun-exposed nature of their vineyards.

Bruno Pizza manages the estate with a focus on territorial integrity. His approach is defined by minimal intervention farming and sustainable infrastructure.  He believes in letting the volcanic soil and the specific microclimates of the Sabato Valley speak for themselves.  He has built a gravity-fed, “green” cellar into the hillside where the design uses the earth’s natural thermal mass for temperature control. It also features a roof covered in vegetation to blend into the landscape, water conservation systems and photovoltaic energy sources to preserve the land and fuel operations.

The estate spans approximately 25 hectares across several prestigious DOCG zones in the Avellino province including:  Montemiletto, Tufo, Santa Paolina, and Taurasi.  The focus is  exclusively on indigenous Campanian grapes: Greco, Fiano, Coda di Volpe, and Aglianico. Bruno has designated specific vineyard sites for his “Colle” line where he bottles the highest expression of Greco, Fiano & Aglianico.

Recognized as a top-tier producer in the Irpinia region,  Bruno Pizza’s work has helped elevate the reputation of Greco di Tufo specifically, moving its status toward a complex, age-worthy white wine that rivals the best in
