Monte Schiavo

Simone Schiaffino | Winemaker
Monte Schiavo
The Pieralisi family got started in the olive oil business and like many others made the transition into winemaking. For them this venture started in the 1960s where they began growing and a decade later in the 70s they began producing under Monte Schiavo in the heart of the Castelli di Jesi area. With remarkably close proximity to the Adriatic sea the vineyards receive the Bora wind, a stormy; highly salted wind that makes its way through town every month or two resulting in a beneficial stress of vines and a regulating temperature effect. The Verdicchio that they farm organically here loves this wind and many believe it is the defining factor in this savory, ageworthy gem.
